Last night we went out to see The Happening. I was anticipating interesting, if not good, things from this film. I find that there is something about most M. Night Shyamalan films that I like even if the films themselves aren't the best. The Happening, however, was a total waste of time and money. It was a snore from the get go and just got worse as the time went on. I think even Mr. Shyamalan knew this was a stinkwad because he suddenly introduced a crazy lady character in the middle of the film who served no purposed (except to give the audience the best death scene of the night...and even that's not saying much) and just took up some time in the middle making the entire viewing event seem torturously long. I get Shyamalan's point we are killing the earth and it's pissed off. But seriously, rustling trees and soft wind are NOT scary no matter how loudly the heroine screams when the wind blows. The whole idea of plants blowing some evolved toxin on us was just silly. Couldn't we just get a gas mask and foil their evil plot! Would staying inside keep us alive? Damn those oak trees! Damn them to hell! Skip this one. Don't even bother to rent it.
We stopped and rented some movies on the way home.
George Romero's Diary of the Dead - Yeah! More flesh eating zombies!
Funny Games - Just plain creepy and very, very good!

I thought everything after and including Signs sucked. Lady in the Water is quite possibly the worst film I've ever seen
