I love winter...

but not today. I shouldn't be so fickle about my love for winter but last night, while it was in the 30's, it started to rain. Then the temperature dropped rapidly skipping the snow phase altogether. This meant that this morning my car was encased in a solid two inch thick sheet of clear ice. After I managed to chisel my way into the vehicle and get it started, I started chipping away at the ice sculpture that was now my windshield. I had to stop four times to get back into the car until I could feel my fingertips again. It took me almost 40 minutes to scratch out a hole in the ice big enough for me to almost see to drive. The side windows and back window were totally useless. No amount of defrosting was working either and that handy can of spray de-icer was just a stupid waste of time and money. I was a Popsicle by the time I got to work. I had to hold my breath all the way hoping nothing was coming at me from the right because I couldn't see anything at all. It was like being trapped inside a snow globe without all the pretty snow.

Our temp got up to a balmy 10 degrees at around noon with a windchill factor of about -15. Oh, and it was windy. Tonight we should be in the single digits and the windchill is predicted to be -30 or so. Yikes! Suddenly that after work run to the grocery store didn't seem all that necessary anymore. Living in Wisconsin almost my whole life, I am a pro at knowing how to dress for this weather but when your fingers get numb and tingle THROUGH the heavy gloves you know it's damn cold out there!

Tomorrow we will get a warm up. It will be almost 20! But then we will also get between 3 and 5 inches of new snow. I won't complain about that. I actually prefer it when it's snowing because the snow usually keeps it more temperate and easier to take. I have much running around to do tomorrow to get ready for Christmas so I'll be brave and take it.

Oh, by the way, the score, if you're keeping count, is Christmas tree 0, cats 2. It was down again when I got home today. Actually, it looked like they had quite a busy day. The tree was down, the humidifier was in two parts, my socks from the hamper were all over the living room floor, cat litter had been scattered all over the kitchen and there was a variety of Christmas bows taken out of the package and strewn festively about the place. Perceptive little beasts knew I was NOT HAPPY when I saw all of this. It may have been my stern look but I think it was more the rather LOUD expletives I shouted. Brig took off under the bed and stayed there. Arnie tried to "cute" his way back into my good graces but I'm on to him. Little shit...
