Earth Hour...

Did you do it? Did you turn off your lights for Earth Hour? I did. I thought about it for a while. I mean, certainly, it is more of a gimmick than a solution but I have to tell ya, that one hour of darkness was very cool. I turned off my lights, TV and computer and lit some candles. At first I just sat here with the cats who were wondering what the heck was going on. Then I looked out the window just to see if my neighbors were taking part. I was pleasantly surprised to see they were.

The scene outside was surreal. All of the houses were dark. The night was quiet and it was snowing. (Yes, snowing again...in March...sheesh) Across the street I could see into my neighbor's living room and there were candles lit. It was beautiful.

I don't know if our collective turning off of lights actually made a difference but it did something. It gave me a feeling of solidarity. It gave me some dark, quiet in which to think. And what I thought of was that even if this was a more of a gesture than a solution I know there is more that I can do to make my corner of the world a greener place. So, that time in the dark was not in vain.

if by turn off all your lights you mean "drank beer and watched ice hockey" then yes
