A bad day at Black Rock...

Today was just plain weird. It was Monday, for one thing. But it was the first day of the last week of working with my crew. Everyone is a little on edge, running around trying to get last minute things completed, packing up files and personal items, doing some last ditch job hunting and, finally, avoiding eye contact. The latter because it's really a very sad week here at work.

For one of my crew, and a good friend of mine, it was particularly sad because she was told that the possibility of her continuing to work at our agency just wasn't going to happen. It shook her up and she had to leave for the day. I hardly know what to say in those situations so it was probably for the best that she left for the day. She's worked for this agency in some capacity since she was 18 years old and now she will not. It was shock but it was also something she could have avoided but chose not to. Her fate at the agency really was in her hands and she blew that chance.

I hope this week goes quickly but I fear it will not. This will be a slow, sad and painful death. I will mourn.
