Last night, we were just sitting here watching a movie when there was a loud FOOOMPH!! sound and then everything went dark. Clearly, this was not a blown fuse as it appeared that every house on the block was affected. Alex and I were on our way outside to investigate but my sister/landlord stopped us. She said a power line had fallen in the yard, across the back of our garage and it was arching and shooting flames up over our house.
The fire department was johnny-on-spot as was the KPD. A short time later, the WE Energies truck showed up. They sprayed something all over that looked like grey smoke. One poor guy had to get up to the transformer in the dark, in the rain, while his co-workers stayed below. A couple of hours later we had power.
It was about 3am when we finally got power again. We stayed up until then because we weren't sure if we were going to have to make a fast get away what with the sparks and flames shooting over our roof. I thought the whole thing was exciting. Alex thought my use of the word "exciting" was a weird way to describe this whole adventure. Eh, what does he know? LOL
