So, retire already!!

Living in Kenosha, WI, which is about as far southeast you can go in the state before you run into Illinois, means that it is perfectly okay to be either a Chicago Cubs fan OR a Milwaukee Brewers fan. In baseball, in southeast WI, there's no such thing as state loyalty. So, for me and most of my family we say "GO CUBS GO!". That said, however, it is not the same for the sport of football. It is not acceptable, for any reason, to be a Chicago Bears fan. If you breathe Wisconsin air, you are a Packer fan and god help anyone who cheers otherwise. And worse yet - any poor soul who says they like the Vikings...well, they should just run like hell until they are safely out of the state.

Which brings me to the point of this blog entry. Today was the start of Packer's training camp. We all waited to see if 'ol #4 was going to actually show up. He didn't. The debate of what to do with Brett Favre is hot and heavy here in Cheeseland. Some say "Let him come back!!" and other's say "Let him go!!!" and still others say "Let him come back but bench him!!" (as if that would ever happen...) I'm pretty jaded on Favre. You see, he's done this to us before. And, frankly, maybe it's just time to move on, give Rodgers the shot, and see what happens.

I used to think Favre was one of the last players who truly played, first and foremost, for the love of the game. But if that was the case, he could have stepped up and said "I just want to play. I'll sit the bench. Use me if you can. I just love the game, the Pack and Greenbay." Honestly, if he had done that, there's no way that he wouldn't be playing this year. We Cheeseheads would have given a collective "Ahhhh!!!" and he would have started and adios Rodgers. But that would be a perfect world and since this isn't, what he did was whine, complain, cry, taint his rep, and the reps of the Pack, and Greenbay. Yes, it must have been awfully "hard" on old Brett to show up in Greenbay to work and have all those tens of thousands of fans screaming his name and backing his every move with the kind of adulation generally saved for gods. Rough gig. Sorry we couldn't have made him feel more welcome. What a putz!

So, move on Mr. F! Greenbay should trade him, let him go be a Viking or a Patriot or whatever the hell else he might want to be. Let's get Rodgers in good shape and the team ready for the fray and, please, for the sake of the game, let's just move on.
