This just in...

I got a call from my brother - the one who was just in the hospital. Well, he's my one and only brother so I don't know why I felt the need to clarify that. Anyway - he called to tell me that he got some tests results from his recent blood clot scare and it turns out that he has some kind of genetic predisposition to blood clots. His doc says this means that it could be that we ALL have this genetic problem and now me and all my sibs have to have DNA testing done. It doesn't mean I will ever have a clot. What it means is, I could be carrying the gene that could get passed onto any children I might have. OR...it could mean nothing...because there's no way to predict if and when anyone will get a clot. Ultimately, what it means is that if I do have this gene anomaly I should at least get tested so the information will be in my medical history. That way if I ever have to have surgery they will know what not to give me and how to treat me.

Weird...

At first when he said I had to have DNA testing I thought "Wow, did my mom fool around on my dad? You mean dad wasn't my dad after all?" I got visions of us all on the Maury Povich show with my 90 year old mom telling him a list of "potential" Daddy's! Which, when I think about it, would make for a pretty damn funny show!
