I can be incredibly silly. I got through periods where everything is fine and life is good and then, for some reason, nothing is fine and life sucks. Of course, the latter is not true. Life is always good. I have very little reason to ever actually feel like it's not. Sure, I have aches and pains like everyone does and there are days when I'd rather just stay in bed but who doesn't have those?
I'm not sure what triggers it. What brings on that time when every little thing gets under my skin and I have to work really hard to just not blurt out what's really on my mind? It's those times when stupid people get on my nerves and I have near zero tolerance. I realize though it's not them, it's me. Some days I just can't be bothered.
Mostly it happens on Mondays. Like today. I have a real "anywhere but here" attitude. I plug along doing my job grumbling under my breath. I know this will pass. I know I know I don't have much to really gripe about at all. In fact, I should be grateful. I have a hell of lot going for me.
Maybe I just need to sit back and remind myself of that once in a while. Maybe that would make these tedious days better. Maybe...
And maybe pigs will fly!

On Mondays...
The more I work for a living the more I can say with all honesty that I hate Mondays. More and more that Boomtown Rats songs goes through my head. "Tell me why! I don't like Mondays, I want to shooot...ooo...ooo...oot the whole day down." I get it now. I really do.
This Monday, today, is particularly heinous because 1. I am slightly hungover from an all day engagement party yesterday and 2. the temps have swung into the uppers 80s with humidity to match. It was a chore getting dressed this morning.
Last night when we got home from the party, Alex and I struggled to get the window AC in before this heat wave took full affect. Getting the AC in at our house is an adventure in duct tape. A few years ago, my old AC unit up and died on me right in the middle of a summer heat/humidity wave. There were no regular window AC's to be found within 500 miles so what I ended up with was a vertical AC unit. I don't have vertical windows. But with a little effort, some carefully crafted cardboard to block in the open areas, and enough duct tape to make my daddy proud - we manage to get it in, get it secure and get it running. Though I think this year it may be it's last. The old beast doesn't look so good anymore. And, surprisingly, from the street this set up doesn't look as trailer park as it sounds. I manage to make it look like it's supposed to be there!
So, also yesterday, the all day engagement party. This was for my niece Megan and her hubs to be, Don. My sister threw an all day outdoor bash so's the both (read many) sides of the family could get together before the big day. Megan and Don are both the children of divorced parents so there were people in attendance who hadn't spoken civilly to each other for years. Still, it all went very well and, truth be told, they all got along famously and had fun. It may have had something to do with the Margaritas or the Lienie's Summer Shandy Beer. All I know is at some point we decided to play some volleyball (after many drinks and in the heat/humidity). We were svetzing like piglets. I almost took a header when I stepped into a hole and started side stepping down a hill. Luckily, I righted myself before I biffed the ground but it would have been a sight, lemme tell ya!
We stayed all day...hot...drinking...more hot. Then the AC thing at night. I slept like a rock. But here we are... MONDAY!
As I'm sitting here typing I can honestly say there isn't one single part of my body that doesn't hurt this morning. Even my fingers are sore. And I have a blue bruise on my wrist. Most likely from the volleyball. My head is a wee bit cloudy today. I have internal fog. Most likely from the Margaritas. So, as much as I don't like Mondays on a regular basis I am really hating on it today.

Oi, it's Monday and I have much to do...
I was a tad surprised when I left the house this morning. It was actually a beautiful morning! I guess I just imagine that all Monday's should fit my general yucky I don't wanna go to work mood but this one didn't. The sun was sparkling on the lake and there was a warm lake breeze. I did take a moment to enjoy but then it was "get to work".
I was dreading getting to my office, I must say. I know I left Friday with an enormous stack of paperwork sitting on my desk. I managed to put it out of mind all weekend but here it was, just waiting silently, for my return. So today, I have a ton of stuff to get done. Part of my job is to proof read every single care plan that my teams do for their cases. I get about 25 of them each day so they tend to add up if I don't get to them right away. I'll be "red penning" these for a while. Not the nicest way to spend a beautiful day like this.
Also, we are getting new carpet on one side of our building here. Not the side I'm on though. But that means that everyone over on that side has to temporarily relocate their stuff until the job's done. Since I have a bigger office some of them will be moving into my space for a time. Today is the beginning of moving week so people will be in and out of here all day. That should make proof reading impossible! LOL
I've got some new peeps starting this week too. I have no idea where they'll be located. Space is at a premium here. We have four or five people to an office now and the size of those offices doesn't make for comfortable quarters for that many people. We also have a limited number of phone and computer hook ups. The last person I hired didn't have a phone or computer for almost a month! And, being a non-profit organization, we rely on the kindness of strangers so our office gear (chairs, desks, etc) leaves something to be desired. That last person? She got a desk that had one bad leg which promptly fell off the second she leaned on it! So, I'll have to run around today trying to come up with some workable floor plan for the newbies.
In spite of it all, it's a great place to work. It really is! I love this job, the people, the place, even the crappy equipment. I don't think I'd know how to act if this place wasn't exactly the way it is. There's something to be said for that!

Monday comes in on great big whopping elephant feet..
Oi, I was not ready for Monday. I feel like I've been in this office for days on end which is probably because of the picnic shindig held here over the weekend. I had a really hard time getting going this morning. First, it's dark here in the AM so hauling my ass outta bed was a chore. Every part of me just kept telling me to go back to sleep. I almost convinced myself to do it too until I remembered I had a new case manager starting this morning. Not good if the boss is playing hooky on your first day...
Getting a new case manager here is always fun. The upper management is always caught off guard even though they're the ones who actually do the hiring. We never have a desk or, in most cases, even a cubicle set up for new people on the day they show up to start work. She came in this morning and it was a good two hours before they even got her a desk. Now she has a desk and a few walls but no computer or phone. I'm sure this makes new people feel very welcome.

Tiny little annoying things.
1. The clock on my computer at work. No matter how many times I change it - it always reverts to one hour earlier than it is.
2. Came into work this a.m. and the cleaning crew rearranged my wastebasket and recycle bin. It threw me off. I'm used to reaching back and tossing crap in there and know which one is which and it was all kerflooey.
3. Someone else's vacation pictures. Someone here just got back from Puerto Rico and has about 300 pics of the flowers outside her condo door.
4. The snack guy who fills the vending machine here. We've been out of Cheetoh's for a week now yet there is no end to the Chuckles.
5. My jeans. They came with this belt. It's cutting off my circulation.
6. That person who keeps taking the last cup of coffee but never makes a new pot. I hate that person.
7. I have 20 pens in my desk. 5 of them work.
8. 56 emails...first thing this morning.
9. Someone keeps messing with the Zen sand garden I have in my office. The sand is all over the place and the rocks are missing.
10. Mondays.
